Digital Nomad Visa: Basics
Here are the details that a prospective Digital Nomad Visa holder needs to know:
- The Visa gives you the right to reside in a certain country for a period from 6 months to 2 years
- You will not have to pay any local taxes
- There will be no need to make an effort and receive a residence permit or other documents
- You have no right to get a job in local companies as you are supposed to work remotely
- Most countries require prospective visa holders to prove they earn enough to sustain themselves or their family
- The applicant’s criminal history should be clean
- Make sure you have a sufficient medical coverage for the whole period of stay in the country
Let’s look at the destinations that offer Digital Nomad Visa programs. The majority of these are resorts as the programs were mainly launched after (or during) the pandemic to compensate for the loss of tourists.
Anguilla
The program called Work from Anguilla was launched in August 2020. You will need to submit all the documents and pay a processing fee (USD 2,000 if you are the only applicant, USD 3,000 for a family with no more than 4 members, and USD 250 for each extra family member. The visa will be issued within 14 days from the date you complete all the formalities on your part, and it will be valid for 12 months.
Antigua
Antigua Nomad Digital Residence Visa is a program launched in Antigua in September 2020. The processing fee amounts to USD 1,500 for sole applicants, USD 2,000 for couples, and USD 3,000 for families with three members and more. You will get your visa within 14 days if everything goes as planned, and it will be valid for 2 years from the date of your arrival to the island.
You will need to earn at least USD 50,000 a year to be eligible (or have other possibilities to support all the applicants).
Argentina
The program called Nómadas Digitales came into existence in May 2022, and it gives you an opportunity to obtain a visa for 1 year.
The program has 2 peculiarities that should be taken into account:
- You cannot include any dependents in the application
- You will have to live in Argentina for at least 3 months after the visa has been initially issued
Bahamas
The visa under the Bahamas Extended Access Travel Stay program is issued very quickly (within 5 days) and remains valid for 12 months, after which it can be extended for up to three years. You will need to pay a processing fee of USD 1,025 for a digital nomad and USD 525 for a student who studies remotely. You will have to provide proof of sufficient funds to sustain yourself and your dependents.
Barbados
The visa granted under the Barbados Welcome Stamp program will be available to you 2 days after submission of the application! If you apply alone, the processing fee will amount to USD 2,000. Applicants with a family will have to pay USD 3,000 for application processing. The visa will be valid for 2 years from the date of arrival. You will have to prove that your annual earnings amount to at least USD 50,000 a year or you have savings or other means of paying the bills.
Belize
The visa provided under the Work Where You Vacation program requires a very low processing fee: USD 250 if you apply solo and USD 100 for family members. You will receive your visa in a few weeks, and it will be valid for 6 months with a possibility of extension. The financial requirements are a little higher here: you will have to earn at least USD 75,000 to sustain yourself and USD 100,000 if you bring your family with you.
Bermuda
The applicants for the Digital Nomad Visa under the Work From Bermuda Certificate program will receive it within 5 days if all documents are in order, and they will have to pay a processing fee of USD 263. The visa is valid for 12 months from the date of issue and can be extended on an individual basis.
Brazil
Dreaming of sunny Brazil? Get a visa under the Visto para Nômade Digital no Brasil program. Submit the documents, pay a processing fee of USD 100, and you will get a visa in 3-4 weeks. It will remain valid for 12 months, and you can renew it once. You will need to provide proof that you earn at least USD 1,500 a month.
